There are so many different traditions during Easter but a delicious, relaxing holiday wine is always necessary!

Mulled wine is a traditional holiday wine, associated with good health, warmth, and happiness 😊

Whether you're entertaining this year or simply looking to lay back and relax on Easter... why not simmer a pot of mulled wine on your stove to swell up a cozy, warm spiced aroma around the house? 🍷

Ingredients

  • 1 Bottle of red wine (we recommend a dark & fruity Merlot, Cab Sauv or Grenache i.e. 2019 Clare's Secret Grenache).
  • 1/4 cup of Brandy
  • 3 fresh oranges
  • 1 large cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 1-2 tbs of sweetener of choice: caster sugar or maple syrup

Cooking Instructions

1. Slice one orange into rounds and juice one orange.
2. Combine all the ingredients into a saucepan and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes being careful not to boil.

3. Taste and add more sweetener to your liking. If it is not spicy enough, continue to cook over low heat to infuse more flavours. You can simmer for 15 minutes or up to 3 hours.
4. Remove the orange slices and spices and strain the wine through a mesh strainer.

Serving Instructions

Pour warm mulled wine in heatproof glass or mug, garnished with cinnamon sticks and an orange slice.

Meal Pairing

We recommend pairing the mulled wine with the Hot Cross Bun-inspired Trifle on our recipe page

The warm, spiced mulled wine will complement the fruity, sweet and creamy dessert - the perfect way to finish your Easter feast.
