It’s that time of the year again....May the 4th be with you! To celebrate Star Wars Day, we have carefully paired your favourite Star Wars Characters with the perfect bottle of Wine!  So, if you are struggling with what to drink tonight for your Star Wars movie marathon, be inspired by these perfect pairings. 

 

Darth Vader

Seduced by the dark side of the force, Darth Vader is known for his ruthless and powerful personality and of course, his iconic all-black bodysuit. Whilst others wear white, his long black cape and glossy black mechanical helmet symbolise his commitment to the dark side. Therefore, we pick the Reserve Shiraz... 

Undeniably, the deep, dark packaging of the bottle would place this Barossa Shiraz on the Dark Side of the Force. The Reserve Shiraz is deep crimson in colour with black berries, plum and raw cocoa aromas. Darth Vader would certainly appreciate the layers of red fruit, pepper spice, and oak and the fine velvety tannins that persist on the tongue. So, to all white wine drinkers... Vader argues ‘if only you knew the power of the dark side’.  

 

 

Chewbacca

We can all agree that Chewbacca is the most reliable friend anyone can have. Ironically, despite being the tallest in the Star Wars franchise and being a daunting wild animal, he is in fact the softest and most loyal buddy. Afterall... Chewbacca was inspired by George Lucas’ big friendly dog! So, if we had to pick a bottle of wine for Chewie to enjoy... we choose the Flamingo Moscato. 

This Moscato wine is sophisticated yet playful with its beads of bubbles that persist on the tongue. The underlying touches of honeysuckle and tropical notes of guava, strawberry and grapefruit in this Eden Valley Moscato reflect Chewbacca's natural sweetness. Chewbacca would appreciate a glass of Flamingo Moscato because whilst his species is hardworking and intelligent, he is also fun and playful... like this sparkling Moscato!  

 

 

Princess Leia

Princess Leia, known for her daring nature, strong leadership, and caring personality. She is one of the best-loved characters in the entire Star Wars universe, and it’s easy to see why! Leia is always putting others first, even though she’s royalty! She doesn’t let that stop her from getting her hands dirty and doing what needs to be done. Therefore, princess Leia resembles our Impressionist Pinot Noir!

 

With bright red hues and enticing aromas of cherries and strawberries are complemented with a delicate hint of spice. This perfectly represents her kind-heartedness but also her boldness and 'spicy' confidence. The well-balanced, lighter-bodied pinot is complex on the palate with red fruit and cherries underscored by herbal and savoury elements, finishing with soft tannins. 

 

 

Luke Skywalker

We all followed Luke Skywalker’s journey from being a naïve boy from humble beginnings to becoming a legendary Jedi of the Force. Luke has become undoubtedly a fan favourite, and some may say the face of the franchise. After all of Luke’s persistence in his quest to become the most important asset of the galaxy, we believe a glass of Estate Chardonnay is only right. 
 
This Eden Valley Chardonnay displays creamy lychee and pear notes which are complemented by toasty undertones and lingering acidity. To achieve this complex palate, the wine partially underwent secondary fermentation, and the wine was aged in oak for 8 months before being bottled. The lengthy devotion put into this good chardonnay reflects Luke’s long journey from youth to finding his true identity and potential. Additionally, this Chardonnay is pale gold in colour which is the perfect wine for the Light side of the Force as Luke will never submit to the power of the Dark side... a red. 
 
 

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Long-time Jedi master, Obi-Wan Kenobi holds great inherent wisdom and elegance. He possessed great mentoring skills for both Anakin and Luke Skywalker all of which derived from many battles in the Clone Wars. Therefore, Obi-Wan's chosen wine is The Royal GSM... 

Displaying aromas of cherry, violets and wild strawberries, this Barossa GSM is a complex blend of old-vine Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. It is particularly through the palate of forest fruits, star anise and earthy undertones that exhibit elegancy... a perfect match for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s sophisticated nature.
